Whoopi Goldberg reacts to Jordan Peele thanking her for his Oscars inspiration
Recent Oscar winner Jordan Peele credits Whoopi Goldberg’s 1991 Oscars speech as his inspiration to become a filmmaker. The writer and director of Get Out became the first black screenwriter to win an Academy Award for Best Original Screenplay. In the press room after his historic win, Peele thanked Goldberg, saying, “Whoopi Goldberg, in her acceptance speech for Ghost, was a huge inspiration to me. When I got nominated, one of the first things I did was reach out and thank her for telling young people who maybe doubted themselves that they can do it.”
On The View, Goldberg reacted to Peele’s words. She said that in her speech she had hoped to inspire children watching the program, and added: “If you’re a kid sitting out there, you see me here. You see me. You can do this.”
She added that inspiring people to dream is “the beauty of what we can do as actors.”
