Many dream aloud of a night with Leonardo DiCaprio, but one famous face says that when the offer was actually on the table, it was just too anxiety-inducing to pursue.

Whitney Port, who shot to fame on MTV's "The Hills," met DiCaprio inside a Manhattan club in 2009, one year after she'd left the show to star on her spinoff "The City." Recalling the story on her "With Whit" podcast this week, Port said they exchanged numbers after DiCaprio approached and indicated that he sometimes watched her show.

DiCaprio invited Port and her friend to join him at another nightclub, she said. Afterward, "he invited me back over to his house, and I said no," Port, now 34, said. "I was too nervous. I had never had a one-night stand. I didn't want to be with him alone."

Looking back, she said, she wishes she'd summoned the courage: "I was way too nervous to do it, and then I lost my chance, and it's really one of my bigger regrets in life," she said, adding, "If you didn't think I was cool, now you probably do!"

Although the two kept in touch via BlackBerry Messenger for another six months, they never saw each other again, she said.

The friendship didn't exactly end amicably: After a producer on Port's show leaked the story of their supposed relationship to the press, the text communications stopped permanently.

"Whenever I tell [the story] to friends, no one believes me," she said.

But things all work out in the end: Port is happily married to Tim Rosenman, and they have a toddler named Sonny. (Incidentally, Rosenman was also a producer on "The City," but it doesn't sound like he was the one who leaked the DiCaprio story.)

DiCaprio, for his part, hasn't openly expressed interest in walking down the aisle anytime soon.
