“The White Lotus”’ Natasha Rothwell Says Season 3 Scripts Are ‘Going to Give You a Run for Your Money’ (Exclusive)

Rothwell exclusively spoke to PEOPLE at the premiere of 'Wonka' in Los Angeles on Sunday

Speaking exclusively to PEOPLE at the Wonka premiere in Los Angeles on Sunday, Rothwell, 43, reveals that “people are going to be very pleased” about season 3.
“I've just finished the season 3 scripts, and I'm going to have to say White Lotus is going to give you a run for your money,” the actress and writer tells PEOPLE of the anticipated new installment of creator Mike White's hit HBO drama.
Rothwell, who first appeared as Belinda in season 1, also adds that she “can’t confirm or deny” whether viewers will get to see a lot of her in the upcoming episodes. However, she says “it's an excellent season and people are going to be very pleased.”

Rothwell also appears as Piper Benz in Wonka, which follows the early adventures of the titular candymaker (Timothée Chalamet). Speaking about her role, she tells PEOPLE that she “really got to make it my own.”
“I understood the world because of the previous iterations of the story and so that was incredible to do and play,” Rothwell tells PEOPLE. “And Piper is just strong. I mean the DNA. I remember walking in for the costume fittings and they had pictures of Rosie the Riveter up and I was like, ‘Oh, I got this.’ ”
She also says that her character’s costume fitting was “so exciting” as she “wanted to demonstrate female strength and resourcefulness.”
“She’s so no nonsense,” Rothwell says of her character. “But she's also down to help out. So it's really cool to be a part of that process and conversation with Lindy [Hemming], the costume designer.”

Speaking about the challenges of taking part in the movie musical, Rothwell says it “was at a different level and the scale, but I just tried to take it day by day.”
She adds that the cast and ensemble “were so supportive and it was just a really wonderful environment that Paul [King] created in order to get the best out of us. So I felt really safe to take risks and play.”
Wonka debuts in theaters on Friday, Dec. 15.
