White House Blame Game: Mike Pence Points Finger at Obama Over Syria Chemical Attack (Video)

Vice President Mike Pence just did Donald Trump a solid as he tried to convince the American people that it makes perfect sense that the recent deadly chemical attack in Syria is all Obama’s fault.

“No American can look at those images and not be heartsick,” Pence told Fox News in an interview scheduled to air Wednesday evening. “It is a reflection of the failure of the past administration to both confront the mindless violence of the Assad regime and also hold Russia and Syria to account for the promises that they made to destroy chemical weapons.”

If you’re having déjà vu, that’s because on Tuesday, Trump issued a statement essentially saying the same thing.

“Today’s chemical attack in Syria against innocent people, including women and children, is reprehensible and cannot be ignored by the civilized world,” Trump said. “These heinous actions by the Bashar al-Assad regime are a consequence of the past administration’s weakness and irresolution.”

Both Trump and Pence must have forgotten to check Trump’s Twitter feed — otherwise known in newsrooms around the country as the gift that keeps on giving — where Trump repeatedly urged President Obama stay out of the Syrian crisis.

“The only reason President Obama wants to attack Syria is to save face over his very dumb RED LINE statement,” Trump tweeted in September of 2013. “Do NOT attack Syria, fix U.S.A.”

That same month, Trump tweeted a similar message calling the president of the United States “foolish” and warning that “very bad things will happen.”

“AGAIN, TO OUR VERY FOOLISH LEADER, DO NOT ATTACK SYRIA – IF YOU DO MANY VERY BAD THINGS WILL HAPPEN & FROM THAT FIGHT THE U.S. GETS NOTHING!”

That tweet was just one of more than a dozen that urged Obama against military action in Syria.

In Trump’s defense, he tweets a lot. Who knows? It’s possible he was for the war on Syria before he was against it… which would obviously mean he was for it from the beginning.

Pence also downplayed the removal of Steven Bannon from the National Security Council.

“I think with H.R. McMaster’s addition as our National Security Advisor – a man of extraordinary background in the military – this is just a natural evolution to ensure the National Security Council is organized in a way that best serves the president in resolving and making those difficult decisions,” the VP said.
