'Where Is Wendy Williams?' Shocking documentary airing days after news of her diagnosis

Update: Williams has been diagnosed with aphasia and frontotemporal dementia, her team announced on Thursday, Feb. 22.

Wendy Williams, the former talk-show host, is back, sort of.

And it is tough to see.

Williams, 59, whose sometimes-controversial talk show ended in 2022 after 14 years on the air, amid health issues and a focus on her sobriety, hasn't been heard from much in the meantime. But now she appears in a new trailer for an upcoming two-part Lifetime documentary, "Where Is Wendy Williams?"

Williams is one of the show's executive producers; presumably, she has some say over its content. If the trailer is any indication, "warts and all" just scratches the surface. She appears fragile and, at times, confused, as well as bitter and angry.

The Lifetime trailer addresses Wendy Williams' struggles

"I have no money," she says at one point. Then she goes into what sounds reminiscent of Donald Trump complaining about criminal charges: "And let me tell you something, if it happens to me, it can happen to you."

In one scene, a man holding an almost empty bottle of alcohol says, "Did you drink this whole thing today?" Williams, lying down, yells, "Keep it there! Keep it there!"

Her son, Kevin Hunter Jr., says Williams surrounds herself with "yes" people "who allow this to continue." Then we see Williams with another woman, taking a sip of a drink.

'This is not just alcohol'

In another scene, Williams rides in a car through New York, saying, "This doesn't look like anything familiar." She may be losing memory, someone says. "Anyone can look at her and tell this is not just alcohol. There's something more going on."

Hunter also says, "My mom has done a great job making it seem like everything was OK. But in reality, there's something wrong going on."

A trailer is not necessarily an accurate indicator of what the documentary will be, but from what we've seen, it's harrowing. Maybe it takes a turn for the better; at the end, we hear Williams, in a voiceover, say, "I love being famous. But family is everything. Everything."
