After scoring a $15 million opening weekend at the box office, fans no longer have to head to the theater to see why everyone’s talking about director Luca Guadagnino’s steamy, critically acclaimed film Challengers. Starring Zendaya (who also co-produced the film), Josh O’Connor, and Mike Faist in a tennis-fueled love triangle, the movie has landed online and is now available to watch on Prime Video and Apple TV.

“There’s a lot to see in this sports movie that’s given the hyperventilating Jules and Jim treatment: sex, tennis, racket abuse, weaponized stubble, the Stanford University campus, the resurrection of JKF Jr.’s famous ‘I Told Ya’ t-shirt, the most homoerotic churros in film history, more sex, more tennis,” David Fear wrote in Rolling Stone‘s Challengers movie review.

Continued Fear, “What you won’t witness is Tashi Duncan (Zendaya) breaking a sweat, even when this next-gen Serena Williams is decimating fellow players and seems to be moving at light speed — and that difference tells you everything you need to know about who is in charge.”

For moviegoers who haven’t watched the film just yet, Challengers goes a little something like this (sans spoilers): “To jolt him out of his recent losing streak, a tennis player turned coach makes her world-famous, grand slam champion husband play a ‘Challenger’ event against his former best friend…who also happens to be her former boyfriend,” as the film’s description goes.

“There were so many things that made me want to do this movie,” Guadagnino said of Challengers in a statement. “Certainly, my complete worship of producer Amy Pascal is one of the most important reasons. The second reason was a very brilliant script by Justin Kuritzkes that had a great voice—it was so humorous and piercing. And the premise of the story—people who are complicated and who never really want to put things in place but in fact make things more complicated for themselves—was even better.”

Following the film’s theatrical release, Rolling Stone caught up with O’Connor to talk about his Challengers role.

“Patrick might be in some ways the hardest challenge I’ve taken on,” O’Connor told CT Jones. “Because his qualities are qualities that I don’t necessarily recognize in myself — his bombastic, front-footed nature. Outwardly, he’s so sure of himself and so comfortable with himself. I was resistant to that [at] first.”
