'Trolls'

In 2016, DreamWorks turned the colorful Trolls dolls into a full-blown sensation with the film Trolls. In the movie, a group of fun-loving trolls who spend their days singing and dancing gets kidnapped by a race of giant and very grumpy ogres called Bergens. It’s up to two trolls, Poppy (Anna Kendrick) and Branch (Justin Timberlake), to save them.

Not only was the movie a massive hit, grossing almost $347 million at the box office, but its soundtrack also exploded in popularity. The album’s lead single, Timberlake's “Can’t Stop the Feeling!” went quadruple platinum in the U.S. and won a Grammy Award. With a hit movie in theaters and a chart-topping song playing on radios everywhere, Trolls became an instant phenomenon.

Since then, Trolls has blossomed into a franchise with sequels, holiday specials, video games, books and more. Now Trolls Band Together is debuting in theaters with a special *NSYNC reunion for the film’s new single, "Better Place."

In anticipation of the new movie's release, here is where to watch and stream every Trolls movie.

In the first film, Poppy and Branch must save the other trolls after they’re kidnapped by a Bergen chef (Christine Baranski) who wants to cook them and serve them to other Bergens. The mission unfolds alongside a soundtrack featuring original music and revamped versions of hit songs like “Mo Money Mo Problems” by Notorious B.I.G and “September” by Earth, Wind & Fire.

As for the storyline, while the main characters figure out a way to help out their friends, the movie also incorporates memorable moments, including Bridget (Zooey Deschanel)’s makeover scene. Viewers will recognize familiar voices throughout the project, like that of Gwen Stefani and James Corden, among others.

The original main cast reunited for the 30-minute special, which aired on NBC in 2017, the day after Thanksgiving. This time around, the gang — now known as the “Snack Pack” — sing renditions of famous songs like “Love Train” by The O’Jays and “Holiday” by Madonna.

The trolls we know and love are revealed to be Pop Trolls in the sequel Trolls World Tour — but other troll nations exist too, including Hard Rock Trolls, Country Trolls and Techno Trolls. Chaos strikes during a rave when Hard Rock Trolls try to take over the world, and Poppy learns of the six magical lyre strings that once united the musical tribes. Despite their differences, she's determined to bring everyone together again with the help of Branch and the rest of the Snack Pack.

Released in April 2020, it was one of the first major films to premiere during the COVID-19 pandemic in the U.S. Within weeks, it was reported that Trolls World Tour earned over $100 million in digital rental sales alone, making it the highest-grossing digital release ever.

The Trolls return for the special Trolls: Holiday in Harmony, in which Poppy has planned a village-wide Secret Santa exchange where every troll has to buy a gift for someone else. Poppy is thrilled when she finds out she drew Branch’s name and Branch is horrified when he finds out he pulled her name.

Sticking to its musical roots, Trolls: Holiday in Harmony features more original songs and a rendition of “Sign, Sealed, Delivered I’m Yours” by Stevie Wonder. The cast also expanded with Travis Scott, Kylie Jenner and Carol Burnett all voicing new characters.

The Trolls are coming back in Trolls Band Together with a touch of inspiration from Timberlake’s real-life career. After Poppy discovers that Branch was once part of a boy band called BoyZone with his brothers, she's excited to organize a family reunion, and a search ensues for them. In the process, though, Poppy discovers she might not be an only child, and she's thrown into her own whirlwind adventure.

The Trolls Band Together cast will feature more famous voices for the new film, including Kid Cudi, Troye Sivan and RuPaul. The latest installment in the Trolls franchise will first debut in theaters on Nov. 17, 2023, and a digital streaming release date hasn't been announced.
