Find out where and when to watch Donald Glover's new film Guava Island

At this point, we know that Childish Gambino is headlining Coachella in a matter of days. However, it appears that his alter ego, the multitalented actor, writer, director, and producer Donald Glover, has a few more tricks up his sleeve.

Bringing his Twitter account to a grand total of two posts, Glover posted a still from his upcoming film Guava Island on Wednesday, followed by a tweet announcing that he’ll be showing the film free of charge at Coachella after his Saturday set. Additionally, the movie will be available for mass consumption on Amazon Prime Video beginning April 13 at 12:01 a.m. PT.

Billed as a “new #ChildishGambino film,” Guava Island was secretly shot on the picturesque shores of Havana, Cuba, and stars Glover alongside actress, singer, and fashion phenom Rihanna. The project’s director is none other than Hiro Murai, who has worked closely with Glover on projects including the FX series Atlanta, the music video for “This Is America,” and the little-known short film Clapping for the Wrong Reasons.

Diehard fans have no doubt been waiting for this moment, as Glover wrote a 75-page screenplay to go with his second studio album, Because the Internet, in 2013. However, that screenplay was posted to the no-longer-active URL becausetheinter.net and never filmed. Aficionados had hoped to use the film to help decipher a mysterious stream of Gambino tweets surrounding the formless phrase “Roscoe’s Wetsuit” and the dense 19-song collection, which appears to be to be subdivided into self-contained chapters. However, the screenplay only left more unanswered questions.

So now, Glover is finally answering fans’ hopes and dreams by bringing a Childish Gambino film to life, a grand final project and send-off before his intended retirement of the longtime rap persona we know and love.
