When People's Sexiest Men Alive Haven't Looked So Sexy on Film

Chris Hemsworth will pass along his Sexiest Man Alive crown on Tuesday when People magazine reveals 2015’s honoree on Jimmy Kimmel Live! Before this year’s hunk is named, we decided to take a look back at some of the past recipients who’ve looked less than sexy in a movie role.

2007’s Sexiest Man Alive, Matt Damon, put on 30 pounds to play Mark Whitacre in The Informant!, and opened up to Entertainment Weekly about packing on the weight. “I definitely got doughy,” he confessed. “I started eating like crazy and drinking dark beer. Between meals on set, I’d eat a No. 1 Value Meal at McDonald’s and then Doritos on top of it. It was absolute heaven."

Matthew McConaughey — who received the sexy honor in 2005 — traded in his buff Magic Mike bod to play a rail thin Ron Woodroof in Dallas Buyer’s Club. The 46-year-old actor shed a fourth of his body weight for the role, weighing in at only 143 pounds. But the transformation was worth it — he took home the 2014 Best Actor Oscar for his performance.

Bradley Cooper was given the title in 2011, but a couple of years later he downgraded his look for his role in American Hustle. Cooper spent three hours in hair and makeup each day to achieve the tight curly ‘do he sports in the flick. “I had x’s on the mirror for every day I had left to go through the ordeal,” he said during an interview with Ellen DeGeneres where he discussed his Hustle hair.
