The answer was actually, "This is the best."

It's not often on Wheel of Fortune that a contestant's guess causes his competitors to react, but it happened at the top of Thursday's show.

A puzzle in the "Phrase" category elicited a response of "Right in the butt" from Tavaris, a contestant from Port St. Lucie, Florida. His competition was floored. Blake, of Hampton, New Hampshire, laughed, as Tyra, from Detroit, asked, "What?!"

The correct answer was the much more family friendly, "This is the best."

When it then came time to introduce the contestants, host Pat Sajak joked that Tavaris had "already made an impression on us."

"I apologize, Pat," Tavaris said. " I was a little excited."

Sajak cheekily responded, "We'll figure out a way to handle that tastefully. I have no idea what that’ll be, but...."

Sajak is finishing up his time on the show, which he's hosted since 1981. The 77-year-old announced in 2023 that he would retire after one more season. The last episode of the fan favorite's 41st season airs Friday, June 7.

When Wheel returns with new episodes in the fall, Ryan Seacrest will be at the helm. The American Idol star was named Sajak's successor in June 2023, and he was psyched.

"I'm truly humbled to be stepping into the footsteps of the legendary Pat Sajak," Seacrest posted on social media at the time. "I can say, along with the rest of America, that it's been a privilege and pure joy to watch Pat and Vanna on our television screens for an unprecedented 40 years, making us smile every night and feel right at home with them."

And Vanna White, who's been on the show almost as long as Sajak, since 1982, will be by Seacrest's side. After negotiations over her salary, which was reportedly substantially less than what Sajak was making, White renewed her contract through the 2025-2026 TV season.
