We Were The Lucky Ones (Hulu, Thursday, 12:01 a.m.)

Joey King is back on Hulu after The Act with another limited series. Based on Georgia Hunter’s novel of the same name, We Were The Lucky Ones follows siblings Halina Kurc (King) and Addy (Logan Lerman), who survive the Holocaust and attempt to find their way back to each other. The ensemble includes Henry Lloyd-Hughes, Amit Rahav, and Robin Weigert. Look out for The A.V. Club’s review on Tuesday.

American Rust: Broken Justice (Prime Video, Thursday, 12:01 a.m.)

American Rust premiered in 2021 on Showtime with little fanfare, despite starring Jeff Daniels and Maura Tierney, so it was canceled. However, Prime Video cameto the rescue, bringing the show back with a second season dubbed Broken Justice. In it, detective Del Harris (Daniels) looks into mysterious deaths in the fictional town of Buell in Pennsylvania’s Rust Belt. David Alvarez, Mark Pellegrino, Rob Yang, and Alex Neustaedter co-star.

Hidden gems

Tig Notaro: Hello Again (Prime Video, Tuesday, 12:01 a.m.)

Comedian and actor Tig Notaro is back with a new special titled Hello Again. In the hourlong act (which is directed by her wife, Stephanie Allynne), she unpacks her fame, family history, and going through a health scare. Look out for The A.V.Club’s interview with Notaro this week.

The Truth Vs. Alex Jones (HBO, Tuesday, 9 p.m.)

Directed by Leaving Neverland’s Dan Reed, The Truth Vs. Alex Jones charts the rise and fall of the conspiracy theorist and disgraced media personality. The documentary was filmed over four years, with the crew having access to the courtroom for the trial that held him accountable for spreading lies about the Sandy Hook Elementary School shooting.

More good stuff

Dead Hot (Tubi, Wednesday, 12:01 a.m.)

In the emotional British thriller Dead Hot, Rye Lane star Vivian Oparah plays Jess, who’s grieving the disappearance of her twin brother. Also mourning his loss is his lover, Elliot (Bilal Hasna). Still reeling from the heartbreak five years later, Jess and Elliott attempt to move on—and, of course, as soon as they do, their lives get complicated. She’s contacted by a man who claims to be her sibling, while Elliott’s new love interest has dark secrets of his own. The show premieres on Prime Video in the U.K. and Tubi in the States.

Good One: A Show About Jokes (Peacock, Tuesday, 3:01 a.m.)

Peacock brings Mike Birbiglia’s podcast, Good One: A Show About Jokes, to our screens. The docuseries tracks Birbiglia interviewing comedians like Hasan Minhaj, Atsuko Okatsuka, and Seth Meyers about the process of developing their zingers as well as their personal lives.
