Hulu subscribers can start the new year off by watching a brand new movie starring Jake Johnson and Anna Kendrick, the latest TV show from Marvel (airing for the first time on the streaming service) and, as always, catch up with many of the latest episodes of popular broadcast TV shows and the delayed Emmys.
The full slate of what's coming to Hulu is below, but here are the titles that we are most excited to stream this month.
Best movie on Hulu in January: Self Reliance (January 12)
OK, we may not be able to definitively call Self Reliance the best movie coming to Hulu in January, as we haven't seen it, but it is the one we are most excited for. The high-concept comedy is Jake Johnson's first directing gig, in which he also stars as a man who gets recruited to participate in a dark web competition where he can win a million dollars if he can stay alive from assassins for 30 days with only one rule: they can't kill him unless he's totally alone. Self Reliance could be a lot of fun.
Some other titles we're excited about are 21 and 22 Jump Street, Heat, The King of Comedy, Shoplifters, Super Troopers, X-Men: First Class and RBG.
Best TV show on Hulu in January: Echo (January 9)
Marvel did not have the greatest of 2023's, but it hopes to right the ship in 2024, starting with Echo. This is a change of pace for Marvel, as the new series focuses on Alaqua Cox's titular character, who first appeared in the Hawkeye limited series. The show is said to feature more mature violence sequences and there is a lot of talk about how it'll explore Native American culture. With Echo having only the loosest of connections to the rest of the MCU, this could be something fresh for the long-running superhero franchise.
Best Hulu Original Series: Death and Other Details (January 16)
While Echo is streaming on Hulu, it still is technically a Disney Plus original series, so when it comes to Hulu's original content in January, we are most excited for Death and Other Details, a brand new murder mystery series. Mandy Patkin stars alongside Violett Beane and Linda Emond (fresh of her turn in another Hulu mystery, Only Murders in the Building season 3), as they (and we as an audience) attempt to figure out who is behind the show's central crime.
