The Archewell Foundation, Meghan Markle and Prince Harry's charity was declared "delinquent," according to a report by the New York Post. According to the outlet, the California Registry of Charities and Fundraisers and Attorney General of California Rob Bonta issued a delinquency notice stating that the organization is "listed as delinquent with the Registry of Charities and Fundraisers for failing to submit required annual report(s) and/or renewal fees." Documents obtained by People note that the report was issued on May 3.

"An organization that is listed as delinquent is not in good standing and is prohibited from engaging in conduct for which registration is required, including soliciting or disbursing charitable funds," the letter explains. "The organization may also be subject to penalties, and its registration may be suspended or revoked by the Registry. Once you submit the delinquent record(s), you will be notified of the amount of any late fees that are owed."

A source told the Post that the Archewell Foundation filed its paperwork on time, but the California Registry of Charities and Fundraisers didn't receive a check. People reports that a new check has been sent, and the Archewell Foundation hopes to have everything resolved in the next seven business days. Until then, the delinquency order means that the Archewell Foundation has to "halt soliciting or spending."

"Our mission is simple: show up, do good. We meet the moment by showing up, taking action, and using our unparalleled spotlight to uplift and unite communities—local and global—through acts of service and compassion," the Archewell website reads.

Prince Harry and Meghan previously explained that Archewell, the charity, was inspired by "arche," the Greek word meaning "source of action." They also noted that the name predates the name of their 5-year-old son, Prince Archie. The Duke and Duchess of Sussex's production company is called Archewell Productions.

Harry and Meghan are currently on a tour of Nigeria, where they're meeting with state officials who hope to bring the Invictus Games to Africa. In addition, the Archewell Foundation is also expanding its partnership with the country's GEANCO Foundation. The new initiative will offer mental health resources and training for young people in Nigeria and work to remove the stigma associated with seeking help for mental health. The Archewell Foundation is also working with Giants of Africa, a youth-focused sports charity, to expand adaptive and accessible sports in Abuja.
