‘Whatcha Packin’ for ‘Drag Race 16’ episode 6: Geneva Karr shares ‘muy chismosas’ with Michelle Visage

Each week on “Whatcha Packin’,” Michelle Visage interviews the recently eliminated queen and shows us some of the runway looks they didn’t get the chance to use on the show. Following her episode 6 elimination, Geneva Karr says that she “knew what I was getting into” by signing up for the show because she grew up in the pageant world, which is why she was able to receive critiques from the judges with positivity. Watch the full episode above via the official RuPaul’s Drag Race channel on YouTube.

In her interview with Michelle, Geneva explains that though she’s from Texas, the part of the state that she comes from (Brownsville) does not have many queens and is “pretty small.” She hopes that being the first will lead to other girls from that area seeing that they can do it, too. Without a big drag scene to perform in, Geneva says that she has a wig business that helps her make money, but there is one gay bar in Brownsville that is the “safe space for queer people” in the Rio Grande Valley. Michelle goes on to explain that it doesn’t matter where anyone comes from when they’re casting the show because “drag is drag.”

More from GoldDerby

Of her experience on and preparing for the show, Geneva knew that she “had to have big Texas hair” and brought a crystal with her that has always brought her good fortune. She tells Michelle that she connected with the Miami girls Morphine Love Dion and Mhi’ya Iman Le’Paige, who because of their shared pageant and dance experience they “naturally clicked.” As one of five Latina girls this season, Geneva said that bringing her culture to the show is important because “it’s important for me to represent wherever I go.” Ultimately she is “happy and content” with the opportunity she had to show who she is and the experience was much harder than she expected because she “second guessed [herself] a lot.”
