What to Stream: Celebrate Mother's Day With Three Movies Featuring Badass Moms

Mother’s Day is fast approaching. If you don’t have plans yet for how to celebrate the day with your mom, don’t worry. We’ve got a good idea: Stay home and watch movies with her, specifically these three movies that feature totally badass moms!

When The Bride, played by Uma Thurman, wakes up in a hospital room, she has no idea what happened to her or her unborn child. Soon enough, we learn that she was once a highly trained assassin who tried leaving the business and as a result, was nearly murdered by the people she once considered friends and colleagues. The Bride sets off on a journey of revenge across the globe in a Quentin Tarantino epic so action-packed it had to be split into two installments. We also have to give it up for the movie’s other badass mom, Vernita Green (Vivica A. Fox). Kill Bill, volumes 1 and 2, are both available to stream on Netflix.

The Terminator franchise has had some poorly received sequels of late, but that doesn’t mean they’re all turkeys. Back before he left us for Pandora, never to return, James Cameron directed a stunning action thriller in 1991. It featured a memorable performance from Arnold Schwarzenegger as T-800, but also from one of the deadliest and most important women in cinema history. A ripped Linda Hamilton as Sarah Connor must team up with a machine that meant to kill her in the original 1984 film so she can save her son, John, from the seemingly unstoppable T-1000. Terminator 2: Judgment Day is available for rent on iTunes.

If those movies are a little too violent but you still want to see a mom taking on dangerous opponents with bravery and skill, Pixar has a surefire family favorite that will win her over. Craig T. Nelson stars as Mr. Incredible, a forced-into-retirement superhero who starts secretly donning the costume for what he thinks is just a paycheck. When he falls victim to an evil plot from a fan turned villain, it’s the wonderful Holly Hunter as Elastigirl who has to save him and keep her kids safe all at the same time. The Incredibles is available for rent on Amazon.
