What to Stream: 3 Movies With Too Much Snow

While the white stuff carpets parts of the U.S., we recommend these three movies starring snow that you can stream right now.

The Revenant

Leonardo DiCaprio might have finally come away with that elusive Oscar for playing the part of Hugh Glass, but we’re going to say the inclement weather was the real star of this Academy Award darling. Starring as a man left for dead in the American wilderness, DiCaprio had to endure freezing conditions and managed to scream, crawl, and cry his way through them for your entertainment. The Revenant is available on HBO Go.

The Day After Tomorrow

Let’s go from a movie based on a story that did happen to a movie based on a story that could happen — maybe. In 2004, director Roland Emmerich concocted a wild fantasy where the world’s leaders have ignored climate change to the point of apocalypse. I know, I know, it’s hard to envision. Fortunately, you don’t have to because this movie, starring Dennis Quaid, Jake Gyllenhaal, Emmy Rossum, and a snowed-in Statue of Liberty, does it for you. The Day After Tomorrow is available on iTunes.

Frozen

And, finally, watch Frozen. No, not the animated Disney film. We’re talking about the other Frozen, a lesser-known, but still-worth-your-time, flick from 2010. Starring one-half of the Ashmore twins, this movie basically has one setting, a chairlift stuck with no help in sight for the three skiers sitting on it. Frozen is available on Amazon.
