West Virginia QB Will Grier will be eligible Week 1
When West Virginia opens its season against Virginia Tech, it will have Will Grier starting at quarterback.
Grier transferred over from Florida last year, but because of the one-year PED suspension hanging over his head at the time of his transfer, it was unclear when he would be eligible — at the start of the season or until Game 7.

The program pursued an NCAA waiver and Mountaineers head coach Dana Holgorsen revealed the result with a tweet Tuesday morning:

Grier was suspended during the 2015 season when he was starting at Florida. Before the positive test for Ligandrol was revealed (Grier apologized and said he did not check with UF’s training staff before taking the supplement), he threw for 1,204 yards, 10 touchdowns and three interceptions while completing 65.8 percent of his passes.
He decided to transfer after the season and eventually landed at WVU in April 2016 and sat out the entire 2016 season to satisfy NCAA transfer rules. He returned to the field in April for WVU’s spring game and turned in an impressive performance, completing 12-of-18 passes for 202 yards.

WVU opens the 2017 season against Virginia Tech on Sept. 3 in Landover, Maryland. The game, to be played on a Sunday night alongside a UCLA-Texas A&M matchup, will be part of a great Week 1 slate.
The Mountaineers finished 10-3 in 2016.
