West Palm Beach police investigate fatal shooting, city's fifth homicide in April

WEST PALM BEACH — City police are investigating a fatal shooting that occurred Wednesday morning in the north end of West Palm Beach.

Police did not immediately identify the man, whose body was found on the 1300 block of Eighth Street, near Palm Beach Lakes Boulevard and North Australian Avenue. They were still notifying his family Wednesday afternoon.

At about 9:45 a.m., police received a 911 call about a shooting and were alerted by the city's ShotSpotter system to gunfire in the area. Officers found a man on the sidewalk, and West Palm Beach Fire Rescue medics pronounced him dead, said Mike Jachles, city police spokesman.

The fatal shooting marks the city's seventh homicide of the year and is the fifth to occur during April, according to a Palm Beach Post online database. The city saw 23 homicides during 2021.
