‘We Were the Lucky Ones’ Trailer: Joey King and Logan Lerman Escape Nazis in Harrowing True Story

Joey King and Logan Lerman are part of a family torn apart amid WWII in Hulu limited series “We Were the Lucky Ones.”

The limited drama series is based on Georgia Hunter’s New York Times bestselling book of the same name. The Hulu show is inspired by the incredible true story of one Jewish family separated at the start of World War II.

Per the official logline, “We Were the Lucky Ones” demonstrates how in the face of the twentieth century’s darkest moment, the human spirit can endure and even thrive. The series is a tribute to the triumph of hope and love against all odds.

The series co-stars Hadas Yaron, Henry-Lloyd Hughes, Amit Rahav, Sam Woolf, Michael Aloni, Moran Rosenblatt, Eva Feiler, Lior Ashkenazi, and Robin Weigert, and was unveiled as part of the Hulu Spring 2024 slate.

“We Were the Lucky Ones” is executive produced and written by Erica Lipez (“Julia,” “The Morning Show”), who also serves as showrunner. Thomas Kail (“Fosse/Verdon”) directs and executive produces along with Jennifer Todd who will also executive produce for Old 320 Sycamore.

Adam Milch will executive produce and “We Were the Lucky Ones” author Georgia Hunter will co-executive produce. The Hulu Originals series is a production of 20th Television, a part of Disney Television Studios.

Lead actress King previously led fellow Hulu series “The Act” in which she portrayed real-life killer Gypsy Rose Blanchard. Patricia Arquette won an Emmy for her portrayal of Gyspy Rose’s abusive mother Dee Dee in the true crime limited series.

Up next, King is set to lead the highly-anticipated adaptation of novel “The Uglies,” which she also executive produces. The star also lends her voice to “Despicable Me 4,” and appears in Netflix ensemble film “The Family Affair” alongside Nicole Kidman, Zac Efron, and Kathy Bates. King plays Zara who works as an assistant for movie star Chris Cole (Efron), until Chris falls in love with her mother (Kidman). The movie is directed by “P.S. I Love You,” “Water for Elephants,” and “Bridges of Madison County” screenwriter Ricahrd LaGravenese.

“We Were the Lucky Ones” premieres March 28 on Hulu with the first three episodes, followed by weekly installments. Check out the trailer below.
