Being a working mom can be incredibly rewarding — but it’s also really, really hard. That’s why we’re so grateful that Haylie Duff is sharing her working mom secrets, and getting brutally honest about what it takes to thrive both as a parent and in one’s career. The key to Duff’s work-life balance? Simple: her nanny. Duff is way over the idea that you should pretend you can “have it all” on your own, and is choosing instead to express gratitude and admiration for the people who make her lifestyle possible. In an exclusive chat with People, Duff was quick to open up about the role her nanny plays in her life. “I have an incredible, incredible nanny who makes it possible for me to work,” Duff shares with the magazine. “I am so grateful to her — she’s part of our family and her family is part of our family. Without her, I wouldn’t be able to do the things I do, so we all just work together and figure it out as we go.”

We think that attitude is exactly what you need when working with a nanny, and we’re glad that Duff has such a good relationship with the person taking care of her two daughters: Lulu Gray (age 1), and Ryan Ava Erhard (age 4). Duff shares both daughters with Matt Rosenberg, her fiancé since 2014.

For Duff, opening up about the parenting help she gets is a no-brainer: “I always think it’s funny when people don’t admit that they have help,” the blogger tells People. And even with a nanny, it’s not like Duff is suddenly a hands-off parent. “My job doesn’t stop, but they’re my kids, they’re my responsibility,” Duff says. “It just is what it is, and you do what you’ve got to do, and you deal with it.” What an excellent working-mom mantra.
