Here’s What Went Down At The Inaugural Lovers & Friends Festival

Despite the scorching temperatures, endless lines for those who sought out breathable air, and a demand for water to combat the heat as told by several attendees, Soulection’s inaugural Lovers & Friends Festival seemed to achieve what many considered to be a pipe dream. They brought together some of the top artists from the ’90s and early-2000s for a two-day experience on Las Vegas Festival Grounds. With performances by Amerie, Cassie, 112, Next, Jodeci, Snoop Dogg, Fabolous, Ja Rule, Ashanti, Lloyd, and, of course, the men behind the festival’s namesake—Lil Jon, Ludacris, and Usher—it wasn’t entirely a figment of people’s imaginations.

In the midst of the nostalgic experience, Mase reignited his beef with Diddy during his set, which was plagued by technical difficulties. While attempting to perform “Mo Money Mo Problems,” the former Bad Boy rapper’s sound was completely cut off. “I see what’s going on,” Mase told the crowd. “I’m used to being hated on. I’m used to what’s going on. Somebody, somewhere paid a few dollars to stop my show. But that can’t stop somebody like me. I don’t get ran away too easy. I just wasn’t ready for that, so I’m gonna take my time.” Moments later, Mase called out Diddy, saying, “Thank you Puff, you know he paid for that, right? I got you, n***a. I heard you loud and clear.”

Much to the surprise of guests, Lauryn Hill did show up on time for her closing set on Saturday, May 14, but a security incident had attendees evacuate the scene due to false reports of a shooting. Three individuals were trampled and transported to the hospital, sustaining minor injuries. Performances resumed shortly after the worry subsided.
