Wendy Williams ups her personal security team over concerns about estranged husband

Wendy Williams is taking extra precautions in case her estranged husband makes any effort to put her at physical risk.

The talk show host has "hired extra security to protect her from Kevin Hunter," according to Page Six. The additional guards were brought aboard in the days following her divorce filing.

While Williams has not publicly accused her husband of any specific wrongdoing, various news outlets and lawsuits have claimed that Hunter has a history of physically assaulting his wife. In one 2008 lawsuit, a former employee of Williams' radio show alleged that Hunter "openly physically abused" Williams, once "pinning her against the wall with his hand around her neck, choking her while repeatedly pounding his fist into the wall directly by her head."

Anonymous sources have also contributed to reports, including one insider who allegedly witnessed Hunter hit Williams in the face so badly that her mouth bled, and a former intern who recalled hearing "slaps" and tussling" when the couple was behind closed doors.

Current staff behind-the-scenes at "The Wendy Williams Show" are overall "relieved" by the couple's impending divorce, according to Us Weekly.

Williams' silence about any possible threat from husband was to be expected: Although the divorce papers were served just weeks after Hunter allegedly had a baby with a longtime mistress, Williams has also declined to comment on those reports. Prior to their separation, she steadfastly maintained that they had a solid relationship.

Hunter was an executive producer on "The Wendy Williams Show" until his firing earlier this week. He is reportedly negotiating an exit package.
