Wendy Williams Says Ex Kevin Hunter Had 'No Input' on Biopic: 'It's My Life and My Truth'

Wendy Williams' upcoming biopic is all her own.
On Thursday's episode of Watch What Happens Live, the TV personality answered a question from a fan who asked whether Williams' ex-husband, Kevin Hunter, had any say in what was included in Wendy Williams: The Movie, which premieres this weekend on Lifetime — and if not, whether she's concerned with how he feels about it.
"I don't care what he thinks about it. No, he had no input on it because it's my life and my truth," said Williams, 56. "I did invite him to participate in the [documentary that will follow the movie], where he could've said whatever he wanted to say ... [but] he elected not to return Lifetime's calls."
The Wendy Williams Show host also claimed she personally called Hunter, encouraging him to "say what you want to say and speak your version of the truth" and return the network's calls, but that he refused to be part of both the documentary and the movie.
"He should've done the documentary ... that was a bad move," said host Andy Cohen. "I was interviewed for that doc, and they didn't tell me what to say — they let me say whatever I thought. They're like, 'This is your opinion.' "

Williams has been open about her contentious relationship with Hunter, whom she filed for divorce from in April 2019 after more than 20 years of marriage. She also recently alleged that her ex was a "serial" cheater and claimed she knew about his affairs "almost since the beginning" of their 25-year relationship.
In a recent interview with E! News' Daily Pop, the star said that she once even hired a private investigator to follow Hunter, with whom she shares 20-year-old son Kevin Jr., because she suspected him of cheating. Their split came after he fathered a child with his mistress, Williams previously confirmed in an interview with The New York Times.
Hunter could not be reached for comment this week and has not publicly acknowledged engaging in affairs or fathering a child outside of wedlock, but broke his silence in a statement to PEOPLE after the divorce filing, admitting he was "not proud" of his actions.
"I am going through a time of self-reflection and am trying to right some wrongs," he said at the time, adding that he would continue to "fully support" Williams.

On WWHL, Williams told Cohen, 52, that she "loved Kevin with desperation" at the beginning of their relationship and throughout, "not because I wanted to be loved, but because I am my parents' daughter."
She went on to explain that she was raised to "have [her] own money" but also to expect a specific course of idealized events to play out in her life, like having children and "the white picket fence."
"Being married was the Holy Grail but there was a lot behind-the-scenes," Williams said. "I'm very confident in my feelings towards Kevin initially, how I felt towards him in the middle, why it took me so long to divorce him and that I want love [again in the future]."
Williams' upcoming film — which documents her power, fame and struggles, with Ciera Payton playing Williams — will be paired with a feature-length documentary, in which the TV personality will discuss her path to success and the many experiences she's had along the way.
Wendy Williams: The Movie premieres Saturday at 8 p.m. EST on Lifetime, followed by Wendy Williams: What a Mess.
