Wendy Williams hospitalized as she delays return to talk show indefinitely

Wendy Williams has delayed her return to "The Wendy Williams Show" for a third time, prompting a statement from her family that revealed she's been hospitalized due to complications from Graves' Disease.

The talk show host hasn't appeared on her eponymous daytime show since mid-December when she sparked concerns over her slurred speech after returning in a sling after fracturing her shoulder. Though she initially attributed her unusual behavior to painkillers, Williams has since been absent from "The Wendy Williams Show," delaying her return now three times.

"As Wendy Williams Hunter previously shared, she fractured her shoulder and has been on the mend. Over the past few days, Wendy has experienced complications regarding her Graves’ Disease that will require treatment," Friday's statement read. "Wendy will be under the strict supervision of her physicians, and as part of her care, there will be significant time spent in the hospital."

"Despite her strong desire to return, she is taking a necessary, extended break from her show to focus on her personal and physical well-being," the statement continued. "Wendy thanks everyone in advance for their well-wishes and for respecting her and The Hunter Family’s privacy during this time."

Williams was initially scheduled to return on January 14, then January 21 and now her return date is up in the air. Debmar-Mercury, which produces the show, released a statement of its own that revealed that reruns will air next week and new episodes will begin the week of January 28, featuring a variety of guest hosts.

"For over ten years, Wendy has been a vital part of the Debmar-Mercury family," the company said in a statement. "We wholeheartedly support Wendy in this decision to take the time she needs and we will welcome her back with open arms the moment she is ready."
