Pierce shared his advice for the future Duchess of Sussex in a sneak peek of a new episode of 'Who's Talking to Chris Wallace?'

Wendell Pierce is looking back at what it was like to work with Meghan Markle on Suits.

The 60-year-old actor spoke about the subject in an upcoming episode of Who’s Talking to Chris Wallace?, exclusively shared by PEOPLE.

Before she married Prince Harry in May 2018, Meghan starred in the hit legal drama Suits for seven seasons on USA Network and Pierce played the father of her character, Rachel Zane. In the sit-down, host Chris Wallace asked his guest if he was in touch with the Duchess of Sussex, 42, and Pierce shared an anecdote about their last time working together.

“It was the last night of working and I said, ‘Meghan, your life is going to change, and you're going to be in a bubble, but just always remember, no matter what, I'm your friend, you have lots of friends. We're always thinking about you, we’ll always be there for you. And you know, no matter where you are, always know you have a friend in me,’ ” Pierce said.

Elsewhere in the episode, Wallace asked what Meghan is like an “actress” and “person.”

“She’s wonderful. She's wonderful as both. She's the nicest person ever,” said Pierce, who stars in the upcoming CBS drama Elsbeth. “And I actually, the one thing that bothers me the most right now for Meghan is the fact that I know she would love to act again.”

While Meghan’s character’s storyline ended with a wedding in the seventh season, Suits went on for two more seasons, in which Pierce appeared as stern attorney Robert Zane, and wrapped in 2019. The show has since experienced a trending renaissance after hitting Netflix for the first time in June 2023 and smashed streaming records.

The Duchess of Sussex affectionately described Suits’ streaming success as “wild” at Variety's Power of Women event in Los Angeles in November, and PEOPLE confirmed in early February that NBCUniversal has ordered a pilot for a Suits spinoff, Suits L.A. Fans might not catch Meghan back in character in front of the camera, however. In her joint engagement interview with Prince Harry in November 2017, Meghan said she would no longer be acting.

However, the Duchess of Sussex hinted at producorial opportunities on the Variety red carpet in November. “We have so many exciting things on the slate. I can't wait until we can announce them," she told Variety writer Angelique Jackson.

During Pierce’s appearance on Who’s Talking to Chris Wallace?, the host also asked his guest about the Duke and Duchess of Sussex’s step back from royal life in 2020 and tell-all interview with Oprah Winfrey in 2021.

“The controversy and the life living in the public eye always takes on a life of its own. And it's almost one of those things that sometimes you can't control. And then the suggestion I make to her in public interviews like this is always rely on your love. You love this man. You love your two children,” Pierce told Wallace. After stepping back from their royal roles in the U.K., Prince Harry and Meghan relocated to her home state of California with son Prince Archie, 4, and daughter Princess Lilibet, 2, was born there in 2021.
