‘Weird Al’ Yankovic Scores First-Ever Emmy as ‘Weird’ Wins Outstanding TV Movie
“Weird Al” Yankovic scored his first-ever Primetime Emmy Award as the Daniel Radcliffe-starring biopic sorta based on his life story won Outstanding Television Movie at the 2023 Creative Arts Emmys.
Weird: The Al Yankovic Story — which the accordion-playing master parodist co-wrote and produced — beat out Dolly Parton’s Mountain Magic Christmas, Fire Island, Hocus Pocus 2 and Prey to land Yankovic his first Emmy, adding to a career that’s already witnessed five Grammy Awards wins.

“Halfway to EGOT, baby!!!,” Yankovic wrote in the caption of an Instagram post showing off his trophy.
It wasn’t all good news Saturday night as Yankovic’s “Now You Know,” a song he wrote and performed for Weird, was defeated by Ed Sheeran and Foy Vance’s Ted Lasso track “A Beautiful Game” in the Outstanding Original Music and Lyrics category. However, Yankovic will have an opportunity to win some additional hardware during the second night of the Creative Arts Emmys Sunday as he’s also up for Outstanding Writing for a Limited or Anthology Series or Movie.
In true Yankovic fashion, the singer celebrated the win by going to In-N-Out Burger:
The Last of Us was the big winner on night one of the Creative Arts Emmys with eight awards, followed by The Bear, Wednesday and The White Lotus, with four wins each.
At Monday’s main show — which was postponed from September due to the writers and actors strikes — Succession leads all nominees with 27 after its blockbuster final season, including Outstanding Drama Series. Both The Last of Us and The White Lotus came in close behind Succession in total nominations, picking up 24 and 23, respectively.
