According to sources close to the ex-couple, the 'Starboy' singer simply decided to attend her party because the two remain friends.

The Surprise Birthday Appearance
The Weeknd made the surprise appearance at his on-again, off-again girlfriend Bella Hadid’s 23rd birthday party on Thursday night.
After the singer arrived at at the party onlookers were convinced the couple was back on again...but we are told that is just not the case.
The Cake
According to witnesses, Weeknd arrived at Le Chalet, L’Avenue at Saks’ lounge around midnight, and came armed with an 11-tier macaroon cake. “Joyeux Anniversaire Bella” was inscribed on the cake.
Rumors Start Swirling
Weeknd took part in singing “Happy Birthday” with the rest of the guests who included Bella’s mom, 'RHOBH' star Yolanda Hadid.
The duo took a shot of booze together, and the crowed partied on.
The surprise appearance, along with the dope gift sparked rumors earlier in the day that the couple may have decided to give their relationship another shot.
Glued To Each Other
Several people inside the party reported they didn't leave each other's side and looked like they have been in contact before the surprised meet up.
Reports even surfaced the two stars left the party together to go back to the apartment they both shared.
It's Not Happening
But, we have confirmed with people very close to them, the two are not back together despite hanging out all night, they are not getting back into a relationship.
But, this is Hollywood, and we are talking about two young hot and rich A-listers. So anything is possible...
