Weekend things to do: Karol G, Lana Del Rey tickets, $4 movies and eating Cambodian in Flagler Village

She just did a history-making set as a headliner at Lollapalooza, her second album of 2023 debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard chart, and she’s bringing her first stadium tour to South Florida this weekend for not one, but two performances at spacious Hard Rock Stadium.

She’s Karol G, and the stylish Colombian singer is only making it more apparent that she has quickly reached a place where the word “superstar” is not hyperbole.

For the record, she became the first Latina to top the bill at Lollapalooza on Aug. 3 and her new album, “Mañana Será Bonito (Bichota Season),” was the mainstream Billboard 200 chart’s first No. 1 all-Spanish-language album by a woman. This success follows a career-changing 2022, when her arena tour became the highest-grossing U.S. tour by a female Latin act in history.

By all accounts, Karol G is an entertainer who works best on a grand scale, with performances carried by soaring emotions, and a deep and unaffected connection with her mostly female fan base.

A Billboard reviewer called her nearly two-hour Lollapalooza set, backed by an all-female band, a “momentous” and passionate performance. In a review of her recent sold-out Rose Bowl concert, Variety called it “a total party,” filled with flags of Colombia, Mexico, Argentina and other nations, that reduced Karol G to tears of gratitude.

The singer will perform at Hard Rock Stadium in Miami Gardens at 7 p.m. Friday and Saturday, with tickets starting at $92+ at Ticketmaster.com.

In honor of Cory Bartle:Local chef and skateboarder Cory Bartle will be remembered during the Bartle BBQ Hang, a fundraiser happening from 3 to 6 p.m. Saturday at the National Croquet Center in West Palm Beach. Bartle died from an accidental overdose on Oct. 22 at age 34. Events will include barbecue (donated by SandyJames Catering), skateboarding (there will be a half-pipe competition with prizes) and a demonstration by skateboard pro Kai Canduba.
