Alonzo Felder, the Rev. ASJ Allen Gainesville Book Launch: 7 p.m. Monday, A. Quinn Jones Museum, 1108 NW Seventh Ave. Free. (portiz@ufl.edu) The Samuel Proctor Oral History Program will be co-sponsoring the book launch with the A. Quinn Jones Museum and the City of Gainesville. The book launch is in support of Alonzo Felder's new book, "Discovering A.S.J. Allen: A Story of Skinfolk, Kinfolk, and Village Folk," published by the Florida Historical Society Press.

Palatka Blue Crab Festival: 6-11 p.m. Friday, 9 a.m.-11 p.m. Saturday-Sunday, 210 St. Johns Ave., Palatka. Free admission and parking. (palatkabluecrabfestival.com) The festival, hosted by the city of Palatka and produced by Ancient City Entertainment, features live music, craft beer, aerialists, magic, waterski shows, foam party and fireworks.

The Lee Boys Concert: 7-9 p.m. Friday, Bo Diddley Community Plaza, downtown Gainesville. The Lee Boys, national headliner based in Miami, is recognized as one of America’s finest African American sacred steel ensembles. Band leader Alvin Lee says sacred steel is an inspired, unique form of gospel music with a hard-driving, blues-based beat.

"The Line": 8 p.m. Fridays-Saturdays, 2 p.m. Saturdays June 3-12, Actors’ Warehouse, 2512 NE First Blvd. Tickets: $25 regular, $20 seniors and students. (actorswarehouse.org) It centers on the experiences of first responders at the height of the COVID-19 pandemic.

"Between Heaven and Earth" The Paintings of Alyne Harris closing reception and Art Sale: 5-8 p.m. June 3, Thomas Center Galleries, 302 NE Sixth Ave. In addition, an art sale featuring 200 paintings will be offered 1-4 p.m. June 4 at the Thomas Center Galleries. Prices range from $50 to $500. Majority of the pieces are framed and all pieces are ready to be hung.

Charles Bradley: Soul of America documentary/music: 7 p.m. June 10-11, A. Quinn Jones Museum and Cultural Center, 1013 NW Seventh Ave. Bradley died of cancer at age 68. His debut album rose to The Rolling Stone magazine Top 50 albums in 2011.

EXHIBITS

"At First Flush": Noon-5 p.m. Thursday-Friday; 10 a.m.- 5 p.m. Saturday-Sunday, Cade Museum of Creativity. (cademuseum.org) The permanent exhibit explores the history of the invention of toilets and how they made modern cities possible. It ponders the science of soap and introduces visitors to NASA’s Zero-G toilets, which help astronauts go boldly where no human has gone before.

"Science Up Close: Fantastic Fossils": Open now, Florida Museum of Natural History, 3215 Hull Road. Admission: $7 adults; $6.50 Florida residents, seniors and non-University of Florida college students; $4.50 ages 3-17; free to museum members, children ages 2 and younger and UF students with a valid Gator 1 Card. (floridamuseum.ufl.edu/visit/plan, floridamuseum.ufl.edu/exhibits/fantastic-fossils, 846-2000) The exhibition is a collaborative endeavor linking the museum’s exhibits and collections staff, giving people a look at never-before-seen specimens and real fossils. Researchers from the vertebrate paleontology, invertebrate paleontology and paleobotany collections will be in the exhibit as part of its working lab, providing a glimpse into the daily life of curators, collection managers, students and volunteers.

"She/Her/Hers: Women in the Arts of China": On display through March 24, 2024, David A. Cofrin Asian Wing. (harn.ufl.edu/exhibitions/current) Exhibition unravels the intersecting roles women played as subjects, artists and consumers of art in traditional, modern and contemporary China. Features a wide range of works -- paintings, calligraphy, textiles, ceramics, bronzes, photographs, and lacquer and silver wares, some of which have never been on view before. Organized around four themes -- "Representing Femininity," "Anonymous Beauty," "Female Artists" and "Beyond the Boudoir" -- this exhibition not only realizes a full spectrum but also provides a more nuanced view of women’s dynamic engagements with and contributions to the arts of China throughout history.
