“Wednesday” spinoff about Fred Armisen's Uncle Fester in the works after single-episode debut

Do the "Goo Goo Muck" dance: "Fester" is in early development.

Here's some news that's to die for: A Wednesday spinoff about Fred Armisen's eccentric Uncle Fester, titled Fester, is in early development at Netflix, EW can confirm.

Armisen guest-starred in just one episode of the debut season (episode 7, "If You Don't Woe Me By Now"), where he provided valuable insight to his niece Wednesday Addams (Jenna Ortega) by revealing that the monster she's been tracking is called a Hyde. The kooky character — and brother to Luis Guzman's Gomez — turns up in Nevermore to lay low after a run-in with the law.

Not much else is known about the spin-off at this time.

Wednesday, the coming-of-age horror series from director and executive producer Tim Burton, also stars Catherine Zeta-Jones (Morticia Addams), Emma Myers (Enid), Percy Hynes White (Xavier), Hunter Doohan (Tyler), Gwendoline Christie (Larissa Weems), and Addams Family movie alum Christina Ricci (Marilyn Thornhill). It broke Netflix records as the most-watched during its first week when it debuted last November.

Season 2 is set to begin filming next year, reportedly in Ireland. Ortega, who will also serve as a producer on the upcoming season, teased earlier this year that the follow-up would be "a lot more bolder" and even darker. "We want to lean into the horror aspect of the show a little bit more because it is so lighthearted, and I think a show like this, with vampires and werewolves and super powers, you don't want to take yourself too seriously," she told Elle Fanning in Variety's "Actors on Actors."

Just don't expect any love triangles. "I think that we're kind of ditching any romantic love interest for Wednesday, which is really great," Ortega added.

The star also said she was "doing everything in my power" to revive Christie's Principal Weems, who died in the debut season. "Gwendoline, being as talented as she is, is just really, really a pleasure to work with, so I'm doing everything in my power to throw the most insane plots that would possibly bring this woman back from the dead," Ortega said. "I'm trying!"

Bloomberg first reported the news of the spinoff.
