Asheville, North Carolina’s finest country-fried indie rockers, Wednesday, have announced a massive tour for 2024, as well as a new documentary, Rat Bastards of Haw Creek.

The North American tour will kick off on Jan. 19 at the Lincoln Theatre in Raleigh, North Carolina, with the first leg running through Feb. 10 at the Cherry Street Tavern in Chattanooga, Tennessee. A second run starts May 14 at Meow Wolf in Santa Fe, New Mexico, and ends May 30 at Slowdown in Omaha, Nebraska.

Tickets for the new shows will go on sale Oct. 13 at 10 a.m. local time. Artist and local pre-sales will start tomorrow, Oct. 11, at 10 a.m. local time. Full info is available on Wednesday’s website.

As for the documentary, Rat Bastards of Haw Creek was directed by Zach Romeo, a friend of the band who grew up with them in North Carolina. Out Oct. 19, the doc will offer a glimpse at Wednesday’s rise over the past couple of years, contrasting their comparatively chill lives in Asheville with the wild shows and life on the road.

A trailer for the doc shows the wide array of live performances and behind-the-scenes footage Romeo collected for the film. It also finds him laying out his intentions for the project, saying, “Asheville is a home that I shared with the band for a long time. I wanted to come back and say hi, and bring a camera along with me because I think there’s something really special about living and creating down here in the South.”

In an interview with Rolling Stone earlier this year, Hartzman similarly broached that subject, while also talking about the sensation of being an indie band from the South breaking through outside the region. “Indie music goes in and out of having big Southern scenes, like obviously, Athens was a spot back in the day,” she said. “But we haven’t had a moment quite like what Asheville is having — this resurgence of indie acts coagulating here. But I feel like when we go to Philly, it’s the same thing, feeling like transplants… I don’t know how to describe it as similar, but it feels similar.”

Wednesday have spent much of the year on the road in support of their acclaimed new album, Rat Saw God, released back in April. They have a European and U.K. tour this fall, after which Hartzman and guitarist MJ Lenderman — an accomplished artist in his own right — will play a handful of dual solo shows on the West Coast in December.
