Will weather permit watching the solar eclipse? Here's the latest Athens-area forecast

After April 8, Americans won't see a total solar eclipse until 2044. While Georgia will only get a partial eclipse, it's still something special to behold. But will weather permit Athens-area viewers to see it?

USA Today's interactive zip code and map tool indicates the partial eclipse will be visible locally between 1:47 p.m. and 4:22 p.m. with the peak at 3:06 p.m. Early forecasts from the Weather Channel are not showing too many issues, with partly cloudy skies predicted but very little chance of rain across the area.

Temperatures are expected to reach as high as 76 degrees and as low as 51 degrees. Humidity will sit at around 50% to 60%.

But whatever the weather and despite this not being a total eclipse, NASA still encourages anyone interested in viewing the eclipse to only do so with the appropriate equipment. Certified glasses should be used when looking straight up or an eclipse projector should be built. Any cameras or viewing devices should have use a special-purpose solar filter.
