'The Way Home' Star Evan Williams Thinks Season 2’s Finale Will Leave You 'Speechless' — See an Exclusive Clip
If you’ve been watching the second season of The Way Home, then you know the Hallmark series really went all out for season 2. Instead of venturing into the 90s and 2000s like in season one, the time-traveling show went all the way back to the 1800s. So, of course, their season finale wouldn’t be any different.
Ahead of the finale, which will air on March 31, SheKnows got an exclusive clip and a tease for what’s to come from the show’s very own Evan Williams, who plays Elliot.

“If [the viewers] anything like me, I think they’ll spend quite a while speechless as they absorb what we’ve thrown at them surrounding the end of our season,” Williams says about the upcoming episode. “When I read it the first time, I just sat there in my kitchen, shaking my head and smiling. I was transported.”
“I’m excited for people to experience it because we love it and we’ve worked hard to bring this story to life,” Williams continues. “It’s such a beautiful show because the rewards are earned. And because nothing comes easy, it’s so gratifying to turn every next corner and unearth every new treasure.”
We’re not going to spoil anything but SheKnows also got an exclusive clip for the next episode and fans are in for a treat.
In the clip, Elliot and Alice (played by Sadie Laflamme-Snow) chat in the local diner. “My very existence created this two-decade-long between my mom and Del,” Alice tells Elliot. As a reminder, Alice’s mom is played by Chyler Leigh while her grandmother, Del, is played by Andie MacDowell.
“Is that why the pond kept sending me back?” Alice asks. “So that I can see that I was the reason that Mom never talked to Del again and never came home?”
And while Elliot may not have all the answers, it’s clear that he has some cards up his sleeve. “Listen, Kat may never have spoken with Del again before you two came here but that doesn’t mean your mom didn’t come back,” Elliot responds. “Or that you didn’t, you know, go back.”
“When? You have the journal, right?” Alice asks. “Listen, all I’m saying is you won’t have to wait too long to find out the details,” Elliot says.
Of course, the long-awaited finale follows quite a bumpy ride for Elliot throughout season two. “It’s been a bit of an uphill battle for Elliot this year, but I think that anything worth doing is worth working for,” Williams told us. “And for a guy who could conceivably have a lot to complain about, at the end of the day he’s got to realize that the only one who is going to help him actualize, is himself. And in a way, I think the bumpy road to that discovery will leave him stronger and clearer than he’s ever been before.” How poetic!
And while we’re still on the edge of our seats to watch the end of season 2, the show, which was recently renewed for season 3, will surely leave some questions up in the air.
Talking to Williams, he shared how the cast reacted to learning about the renewal. “There was much squealing and yelping among the cast when we did the initial round of calls to each other to say ‘have you heard??'” Williams says. “I’m so thrilled that we’re gonna get to continue telling this story because I know our writers have more than a few tricks up their sleeves, and we’ve fallen in love with these characters just as much as the audience has.”
“There’s a beautiful dance that emerges between the actors and the writers as a show gets to spool out across time, as we both pay attention to what the other is bringing,” he continues. “As we sort of meld together in our visions, the characters widen and deepen, and they gain more and more texture.”
“Especially with a character like Elliot who has so many layers to peel off even as he metamorphosizes,” he reflects. “It’s beautiful to watch a character grow and I’m excited to embody that. I’m not going to give away any clues about Elliot’s path, but I will say that it’s gonna be worth the wait. We know that people will be hungry for more after the season finale, so we’ll be hard at work and will be jumping back onto screens as soon as humanly possible.” As avid fans of the show, we thank you for the rush!
