'Watchmen' star Yahya Abdul-Mateen II says show educated audience about Tulsa massacre

On Sunday, Yahya Abdul-Mateen II won an Emmy for Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Limited Series or Movie, for his performance in “Watchmen.” Prior to his win, Abdul-Mateen II spoke to Yahoo Entertainment about the acclaimed HBO show, which also nabbed an Emmy win for Outstanding Limited Series. The show is set in Tulsa, Oklahoma and Abdul-Mateen II said it helped educate the audience about the city’s dark history - namely the massacre of 1921, which for years was referred to as a race riot. “Even the fact that we're talking about it, that we're talking about it in terms of a massacre and not a race riot, those are positive steps towards correcting a lot of the wrongs that have been done to that particular place in history,” Abdul-Mateen II said.
