Zac Efron was answering questions on the red carpet at The Iron Claw premiere tonight when he got some welcome news: SAG-AFTRA and the studios had reached a tentative deal to end the actors strike.

When Deadline asked the actor how he felt about the deal moments after he’d heard about it, Efron said: “Incredible. I’m so happy we were all able to come to an agreement. Let’s get back to work. Let’s go.”

He added: “Congrats, everybody — we did it.”

Moments later, Efron’s co-star Harris Dickinson learned from Deadline’s Scott Shilstone that the SAG-AFTRA deal was done. “Is it?” he asked, leaning in. “As of when?” Told that the news had broken just a few minutes before, Dickinson folded his arms and said, “You’re joking.” Turning to Efron, he said, “Don’t tell me that now.” And the stars shared a smile.

Efron, Dickinson and others were meeting the press at the Dallas world premiere of the wrestling film from writer-director Sean Durkin. The Iron Claw tells the true-life story of the Von Erichs, a family of pro wrestlers that ruled the ring for decades despite so many tragedies that fans often have talked of a Von Erich Curse. Efron and White star as brothers Kevin and Kerry Von Erich. Jeremy Alan White, Holt McCallany, Stanley Simons, Maura Tierney and Lily James also star.

The film hails from A24, which does not fall under the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers banner and therefore was able to apply for and receive interim agreements from SAG-AFTRA. In addition to Iron Claw, the indie studio’s awards slate of The Zone of Interest, Celine Song’s Past Lives and the Nicolas Cage starrer Dream Scenario also were granted IAs to promote during the strike.
