The 2024 SAG Awards will kick off Saturday, February 24 beginning at 8 a.m. ET/5 p.m. PT live on Netflix from the Shrine Auditorium & Expo Hall in Los Angeles.

The ceremony, celebrating the year’s best in film and television acting, marks Netflix’s first live awards show and stems from a multiyear deal sealed in 2023 that saw the SAG Awards stream live on Netflix’s YouTube channel. This year’s ceremony is exclusively on the streaming platform.

An official SAG preshow hosted by Tan France and Elaine Welteroth begins at 7 p.m. ET/4 p.m. PT on Netflix and Netflix’s TikTok and YouTube channels.

Ahead of that, a pre-ceremony red-carpet special will stream on People.com, EW.com and those outlets’ YouTube, Facebook, X and TikTok pages beginning at 6 p.m. ET/3 p.m. PT.

The Ceremony

This year’s lineup of participants include Idris Elba kicking off the traditionally hostless event, followed by presenters including Meryl Streep, Anne Hathaway and Emily Blunt in a The Devil Wears Prada reunion of sorts, along with Erika Alexander, Danielle Brooks, Sterling K. Brown, Michael Cera, Jessica Chastain, Colman Domingo, Robert Downey Jr, Phil Dunster, Billie Eilish, America Ferrera, Brendan Fraser, Taraji P. Henson, Troy Kotsur, Greta Lee, Melissa McCarthy, Cillian Murphy, Glen Powell, Issa Rae, Storm Reid, Margot Robbie, Tracee Ellis Ross, Alexander Skarsgård, Omar Sy, Hannah Waddingham, Naomi Watts and Jeffrey Wright.

Barbra Streisand will receive the 59th SAG Life Achievement Award during the ceremony, with Jennifer Aniston doing the honors presenting the award to her. Fran Drescher, SAG-AFTRA’s president, will also speak during the show, likely including on the topic of last year’s actors strike and its resolution.

The Nominees

The SAG Awards traditionally serve as a bellwether to the Oscars, with last year proving a perfect match of winners between the two, syncing on Cast ensemble (Oscar Best Picture winner Everything Everywhere All at Once) and all the acting categories (wins for eventual Oscar winners Michelle Yeoh, Brendan Fraser, Ke Huy Quan and Jamie Lee Curtis).

This year, four of the five Cast nominees are also up for the Oscar Best Picture: American Fiction, Barbie, The Holdovers, Oppenheimer and Killers of the Flower Moon (The Color Purple is the SAG outlier). All but one of the lead acting SAG nominees are also Oscar nominees — the one exception is Robbie, who was looked over for Barbie by the Oscar Academy (Anatomy of a Fall‘s Sandra Hüller got that nom instead).

Overall, the Barbenheimer duo of Barbie and Oppenheimer lead with four SAG noms apiece going into Saturday’s ceremony, followed by American Fiction and Killers of the Flower Moon with three each.

In the TV categories, the final season of Succession leads with five nominations overall including Drama Series Cast joined in that race by The Morning Show, The Last of Us, The Gilded Age and Netflix’s own The Crown. The White Lotus won last year in the category.

Abbott Elementary returns to defend its Comedy Series Cast win last year, with this year’s nominees including The Bear, Barry, Only Murders in the Building and Ted Lasso. The Bear, The Last of Us and Ted Lasso have three noms apiece overall.
