Not to be confused with the similarly titled “The Woman on the Train” or “The Woman in the Window,” the gripping limited series “The Woman in the Wall” is finally making its U.S. debut after airing overseas last summer.

The gripping thriller, which will get a preview on Paramount+ Friday before officially premiering Sunday on Showtime, stars Golden Globe winner Ruth Wilson as Lorna Brady, a survivor of the Catholic Church-run Magdalene Laundries of Ireland whose daughter was taken from her as a teenager. Her lingering trauma as a result of the experience bleeds into every aspect of her adult life, leading to bouts of sleepwalking and intense paranoia. So when Lorna wakes up one morning to find a dead woman in her house and no recollection of who she is or how she got there, she assumes she’s responsible and quickly hides the body in the walls of her home.

As if things aren’t bad enough, Lorna’s already fragile state of mind is tested even further when Colman Akande, a detective from Dublin (“Bad Sisters’” Daryl McCormack) with secrets of his own, begins to suspect her for a second murder, this one involving a Catholic priest. As the show chronicles Colman’s investigation and Lorna’s search for her daughter, a haunting, damning picture begins to take shape. It’s a tale you won’t soon forget, making the “The Woman in the Wall” the awards contender to watch this weekend.

If you’re looking for something a little lighter, though, others contenders include:

  • “Love on the Spectrum U.S.”: The second season of Netflix’s popular docuseries that chronicles the lives of people on the autism spectrum as they search for love has arrived at long last. In the heartwarming new episodes, the Emmy winner for Best Unstructured Reality Program follows new singles and a few familiar faces as they navigate dating and relationships. It doesn’t get much better than this. All seven episodes are streaming now on Netflix.

  • “Fargo”: OK, so I am not sure you can classify an episode that features as much violence as this finale does as “lighter” fare, but the Season 5 swan song of FX’s acclaimed crime drama is must-see TV, so hopefully you’ll forgive me for lying. In “Bisquik,” Dot (Juno Temple) closes in on Roy (Jon Hamm) at the same time as the FBI, but just when you think you know how everything is going to play out, creator Noah Hawley flips the script and leaves viewers on a kinder, more hopeful note than expected. It’s a surprising, but welcome, ending to the show’s best season in years. The episode is now streaming on Hulu.

  • “Death and Other Details”: Yes, this show is also about murder, but it’s the fun, locked room whodunit-type. Set aboard a fancy cruise ship, the series stars Violett Bean as Imogene, a close family friend of the wealthy Collier family who finds herself in the wrong place at the wrong time and ends up the prime suspect in the murder of a smarmy member of the elite. In order to clear her name, she must find the real killer, but in order to do so, she has to team up with a man she hates: Mandy Patinkin’s Rufus Cotesworth, the so-called “world’s greatest detective.” The first two episodes are now streaming on Hulu.
