While you weren’t watching, Amazon’s Prime Video quietly blossomed into a haven for adult animation. The streaming service’s latest addition to its lineup, the sci-fi comedy “The Second Best Hospital in the Galaxy,” is the brainchild of Cirocco Dunlap, whose résumé includes Netflix’s “Russian Doll” and “Big Mouth.” The show, which is now streaming, follows the adventures of two alien doctors, Klak and Sleech (voiced by Keke Palmer and Stephanie Hsu, respectively), as they treat a myriad of strange illnesses and maladies afflicting the brilliant and unique beings that populate the titular galaxy.

While the show’s writers are clearly having fun trying to stretch the limits of the imagination (one episode features an orb-like creature who is a sex bomb, for example), the series also dedicates a significant amount of its runtime to telling relatable stories about universally understood medical conditions, too, like anxiety. The result is a well-rounded, enjoyable comedy that deserves your attention. When you toss in an impressive voice cast that also includes Kieran Culkin, Tracee Ellis Ross, Lennon Parham, Greta Lee, Natasha Lyonne, Bowen Yang and Maya Rudolph, “The Second Best Hospital in the Galaxy” becomes the awards contender to watch this weekend.

However, if you’re looking for something a bit more grounded, other contenders include:

  • “Masters of the Air”: A detour to Oxford is on the menu for Crosby (Anthony Boyle), while Rosie (Nate Mann) is ordered to decompress for his mental health in this week’s episode of Apple’s World War II drama. But while his compatriots are taking a breather, Egan (b>Callum Turner) remains on his dangerous — and deeply personal — mission to find Buck (Austin Butler), who was shot down off-screen two weeks ago. The episode is now streaming on Apple TV+.

  • “The Walking Dead: The Ones Who Live”: When Rick (Andrew Lincoln sailed off into the sunset flew off in a helicopter during Season 9 of AMC’s hit horror series “The Walking Dead,” we always knew this day would come. Now, five years later, it has finally arrived. Rick and Michonne (Danai Gurira) return in the franchise’s latest spin-off (this is No. 6, in case you were keeping score at home), which explores where the two lovebirds have been since we saw them last, and their physical and emotional journey to reunite in a post-apocalyptic hellscape. The series premiere airs Sunday at 9/8c on AMC and AMC+.

  • “Star Wars: The Bad Batch”: If the aliens of “The Second Best Hospital in the Galaxy” are too much for you, might we recommend clones instead? The popular animated series, which is a sequel to “The Clone Wars,” returned for its third season this week. The first three episodes are now streaming on Disney+.
