Watch Tilda Swinton star with her real-life daughter in first The Souvenir trailer

The first trailer for The Souvenir has arrived.

The Joanna Hogg-directed film stars Honor Swinton Byrne as an aspiring filmmaker alongside her real-life mother, Oscar-winning actress Tilda Swinton. The Souvenir chronicles Julie’s experience as a student coming of age in the early ’80s English upperclass who yearns to learn beyond her privileged upbringing, while navigating a turbulent relationship with an older man Anthony (played by Tom Burke), defying her protective mother along the way.

The first clip sees Swinton in a grey wig and tweed skirt as Julie’s well-meaning mother who unwittingly finances Julie’s boyfriend’s drug habit and bourgeoisie lifestyle, as Julie — blinded by her feelings for Anthony — begins to lose her grasp on her dream to become a filmmaker.

Dubbed “an enigmatic and personal portrait of the artist as a young woman” that combines “passionate emotions and exquisite aesthetics into a lush, dreamlike story of young adulthood and first love,” the movie is Swinton Byrne’s first foray into acting and took home the Grand Jury Prize when it premiered at Sundance this past January.
