Watch 'The Search for General Tso' Trailer, Uncover a Great Food Mystery
Have you ever visited a Chinese restaurant and wondered: Who the heck is General Tso? The makers of the upcoming documentary The Search for General Tso sought the answer and found themselves on a quest around the world, from Shanghai to the American Midwest.
Turns out, unraveling the origins of the popular sweet ‘n’ spicy, deep-fried dish isn’t all that simple, as you can see in the exclusive trailer above.
Early reviews have found the film delectable. “The unmasking of a Chinese culinary mystery man opens a window on to the complex history of Chinese-American relations in a finger-lickin’ good foodie docu,” writes Variety critic Scott Foundas. John DeFore of The Hollywood Reporter observes the film is “as much an immigration history as a culinary one… [The] quirky food doc is more fun and more enlightening than an investigation into a menu item should be.”
