No one has ever claimed Terrence Howard is afraid to speak his mind. When it comes to how Hollywood operates and where he thinks he belongs in the industry, he always has something outlandish to say.

However, in his recent interview with Joe Rogan, things went so wildly off the rails, it was insane even for the “Empire” star. Honestly, it’s so totally bananapants crazy, I don’t even know where to begin. He spends a big chunk of his time discussing his various controversial scientific theories.

They’re controversial because most of them are not based on any known, credible science. In fact, he seems to be focused on disproving the foundations that most science and math are built on. This isn’t inherently bad, but when you’re being contrarian just to be contrarian and you don’t have any concrete evidence, it’s hard to take anything you do seriously.

No one serious about science goes to Rogan’s show for the latest breakthroughs. Howard seems to have an equally unattached from reality take on science and math, so the two of them together creates a ridiculous echo chamber.

At one point, the “Hustle & Flow” star boasts that he and his business partner can build a new Saturn without gravity. “We’re about to kill gravity. We’re about to kill their God, gravity, and they don’t want that,” he said.

When you say things like this you sound like the weird guy in the barbershop no one wants to talk to because the conversation doesn’t lead anywhere productive. It’s good to question things, but if you’re telling me that the entire reputable scientific community is wrong, while you and your conspiracy theory friends have the real answers, it feels off.

It wasn’t all nonsensical science talk. He did reveal a few stories about his career, including his explanation for what happened when he left the Marvel Cinematic Universe after “Iron Man.” Howard claims that Robert Downey Jr. couldn’t get an audition to play Tony Stark. When he heard this, he called one of the film’s producers and found out that Downey Jr. couldn’t get bonded because of his past legal troubles. He allegedly offered to return $1 million of his salary so the “Oppenheimer” Oscar winner could get an audition.

When he had issues with the studio between the first and second movies, Howard expected Downey Jr. to repay the favor, but he never answered his calls, which made ‘The Best Man” actor feel betrayed.

In the past, rumors about his MCU exit have mostly said it was about Howard wanting more money and the studio not wanting to pay him. This is probably one of those Hollywood tales that we’ll never really know the truth about.

We don’t have time or space to get into the entire three hour interview, but there’s also tidbits about a virtual reality patent that would have made him crazy rich if he hadn’t dropped it, memories of his mother’s womb and his birth, and of course, a healthy dose of anti-vax conspiracies.

I’m not here to judge Howard or Rogan. They can believe whatever they want. However, there’s something uncomfortable in the way they present their ideas as the real ones, while people who believe in established science, math and medicine are totally wrong.
