Directed by Mary Robertson and Emma Schwartz, Quiet on Set is a four-part Investigation Discovery docuseries that premiered on March 17 and 18, showing off the darker behind-the-scenes happenings of the kid-friendly shows associated with the Nickelodeon powerhouse. The series pulls back the curtain as former child stars and employees detail the allegations of trauma, misogyny, racism, and sexual abuse they say they encountered on some of the most popular kids series. The series also takes a look at the “toxic” environment of the writers room, as well as sexual innuendos that seemed to be baked into the kids programming.
With heavy focus on “Nickelodeon’s Golden Boy,” the tell-all episodes focus on writer and producer Dan Schneider, detailing his influence on comedy series during the late Nineties and early 2000’s starring children and young adults with children as their audience. “For 20 years, he shaped children’s entertainment and culture. But that marked one of the darkest chapters,” writer Scaachi Koul explains in the trailer. The show features several individuals who worked on the network’s biggest hits — like The Amanda Show, iCarly, Victorious and Sam & Cat — including a bombshell interview from Drake Bell, who reveals himself to be the John Doe victim from dialogue and acting coach Brian Peck’s child abuse case.
