Watch ‘Preacher’ Season 2 Teaser for Some God-Seeking Mischief Set to ’80s Hit (Video)

(This article contains spoilers from Season 1 of “Preacher.”)

We have mixed thoughts on “Come on Eileen” by Dexys Midnight Runners but in the first teaser for “Preacher” Season 2, it’s not that bad.

The teaser, released by AMC on Sunday, picks up where Season 1 left off — with a road trip, some violence, questions about God, possibly some drugs, and maybe some more violence.

Season 1 ended with Jesse Custer (Dominic Cooper), Tulip (Ruth Negga), and Irish vampire Cassidy (Joseph Gilgun) embarking on a road trip to drink, cause mischief, and find God. You see, God stepped down from his seat in heaven, which Jesse revealed to the people of Annville in the season finale.

Jesse is also possessed by something called Genesis, which grants him extraordinary powers, but killed his congregation. He’s been searching for God, who abandoned his post when Genesis was created, in order to explain himself.

The show was renewed for a second season while the first season was still airing. The show is adapted from the popular graphic novel of the same name, created by Garth Ennis and Steve Dillon.

The first season was well-received by critics, but was mostly a mixed bag. The concept is strong enough and the actors are superb enough (especially now that Negga has the “Academy Award nominee” label) that we’ll probably watch Season 2 to see where it all leads.

Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg are executive producers on the show, which hails from AMC Studios and Sony Pictures Television. Executive producer Sam Catlin is serving as showrunner.

“Preacher” returns to AMC on Sunday, June 25.
