Watch Post Malone, Reba McEntire Pay Tribute to Dickey Betts With ‘Ramblin’ Man’ at 2024 ACMs

Reba McEntire recruited budding country star Post Malone to pay tribute to Dickey Betts at the 2024 ACM Awards. The guitarist and a founding member of the Allman Brothers Band died last month at 80.

Malone had just wrapped a performance of his first proper country single, “I Had Some Help,” at the show when host McEntire joined him onstage. After coyly revealing he was a bit nervous, Malone was invited by McEntire to pay tribute to Betts with a take on the Allman Brothers Band’s 1973 hit “Ramblin’ Man.” The pair sang the classic song — originally written and sung by Betts — a cappella. Afterward, Malone gave a quick shout out to his mom.

Betts defined Southern rock, thanks to his countryfied guitar style. His hell-raising spirit ended up being a blueprint for the character of Russell in Cameron Crowe’s Almost Famous, the main rock star portrayed by Billy Crudup.

Malone made his Stagecoach debut in April, performing a set full of country covers with guests Brad Paisley, Sara Evans, and Dwight Yoakam. Last week he and Morgan Wallen officially released “I Had Some Help” along with a video for the song. It’s poised to debut at Number One on Billboard’s Hot 100.

The 2024 ACM Awards were hosted by Reba McEntire. Lainey Wilson was named Entertainer of the Year, Chris Stapleton won Album of the Year for Higher (and also gave a surprise duet with Dua Lipa), and Dan + Shay won Duo of the Year.
