Double Oscar nominee Emma Stone (for Best Actress and Best Picture as a producer) stars in the “Frankenstein” satire “Poor Things,” playing a reanimated Victorian corpse discovering the world anew. The supporting cast includes Mark Ruffalo (also nominated), Willem Dafoe, Ramy Youssef, Kathryn Hunter, Jerrod Carmichael, and Christopher Abbott. Directed by Yorgos Lanthimos and written by Tony McNamara, who previously collaborated on “The Favourite,” the movie is an adaptation of Alasdair Gray’s 1992 novel. It received 11 Oscar nominations, including Best Picture. Here is how you can see “Poor Things.”

Is “Poor Things” still in theaters?

“Poor Things” is playing in theaters across the U.S., including AMC and Regal (check local listings). After premiering at Venice International Film Festival in September 2023, the movie opened in limited release on December 8. It has grossed $20.5 million domestically and $13.4 million internationally thus far. 

Will “Poor Things” win an Oscar?

“Poor Things” won two of its six Golden Globe nominations, including Best Actress and Best Picture — Musical or Comedy. It has also received two Screen Actors Guild Award nominations and 11 BAFTA nominations. It was named one of the year’s 10 best films by the American Film Institute and the National Board of Review.

On Tuesday, “Poor Things” received 11 Oscar nominations: Best Picture, Best Director (Lanthimos), Best Actress (Stone), Best Supporting Actor (Ruffalo), Best Adapted Screenplay (McNamara), Best Original Score (Jerskin Fendrix), Best Cinematography (Robbie Ryan), Best Film Editing (Yorgos Mavropsaridis), Best Costume Design (Holly Waddington), Best Production Design, and Best Makeup and Hairstyling. The movie stands a decent chance of winning Best Actress and some of its below-the-line categories, particularly Best Costume Design.
