Paul Bettany Reveals First Clip of Vision in 'Avengers: Age of Ultron'

Marvel movies are full of origin stories, but this may be the first time we’ve literally seen a superhero being born. In the Avengers: Age of Ultron clip above, new character Vision (Paul Bettany) emerges fully-formed from Stark Tower to give Tony Stark (Robert Downey Jr.) and Thor (Chris Hemsworth) a run for their money. The clip, which played as part of an interview with Bettany on BBC One’s The One Show, is the first footage we’ve seen of Vision in action. For the most part, Marvel has been keeping him under wraps, giving fans only a glimpse of his face in the trailer released in March. The character was officially unveiled earlier this month on a solo movie poster.

So who is Vision? Bettany, who voiced Tony Stark’s computer assistant Jarvis in The Avengers and the Iron Man films, confirms that there is a connection between Jarvis and this new character  – “but I’m not allowed to say what it is,” he adds. He does tease a other few details about Vision during his talk-show appearance, calling him “the flipside” of the new movie’s bad guy Ultron (James Spader). “He’s supremely powerful and omnipotent,” says Bettany of his character, “and yet totally naïve and experiencing the world as it comes, and wondering what is his purpose is in the world, and whether he’s going to be a force for good or evil.”

Vision is also, apparently, a hit with the kids. In the clip above, Bettany describes the experience of his young daughter visiting him on the Age of Ultron set. “She was with me on the first day and I was purple, and I came out and she loved it,” he says. “And then at the end of the day when I took it off she had the first meltdown I’ve ever seen her have, and she went, ‘No, I want purple daddy!’”
