Following the success of the 2004 film and 2018 Broadway musical of the same name, Paramount Pictures is making fetch happen for a third time with the new film adaptation of the Tony-nominated show.

Though the film features a brand-new cast and a new “twist” on the story with musical numbers, it certainly pays homage to the original with all your favorite one-liners and a handful of returning stars, including Tina Fey and Tim Meadows reprising their roles as Ms. Norbury and Principal Duvall.

As fans get introduced to the new generation of the Plastics, people are already wanting to rewatch the film at home.

When was Mean Girls released in theaters?

Following its premiere in New York City on Jan. 8, Mean Girls was released in theaters on Jan. 12, 2024.

How long was Mean Girls’ theatrical release window?

In 2021, Paramount Pictures films such as A Quiet Place Part II and Snake Eyes became available to stream 45 days after their theatrical release.

In September 2022, Paramount Pictures President and CEO Brian Robbins teased the company would continue that same release window for future projects while speaking at the Bank of America Securities 2022 Media, Communications & Entertainment Conference. “Theatrical still has the greatest impact. That sort of theatrical release, 45 days later to streaming, that’s working beautifully,” Robbins said, per The Hollywood Reporter.

However, that model varied from movie to movie in 2023. While Transformers: Rise of the Beasts was available to stream 46 days after its theatrical release, the window was a little longer for 80 For Brady, which hit streaming more than 60 days after its theatrical release.

When did Mean Girls become available to stream?

Mean Girls became available to stream on digital on Feb. 20. The film is currently available to rent or purchase on Amazon or AppleTV+, as well as Vudu, Xfinity, YouTube and more streaming platforms.

Where did Mean Girls release on Paramount+?

Starting in 2024, Paramount theatrical releases head straight to Paramount+ after they run in cinemas, as previously reported by Deadline. In fact, Mean Girls was originally going to be a streaming-only release on Paramount+, but in September 2023 it was announced it would have a theatrical release.

The film hit the streamer on March 5. Additionally, the film will be released on 4K UHD, Blu-ray and DVD on April 30, which happens to be the 20th anniversary of the original Mean Girls. In honor of the special anniversary, the original movie will also be released on 4K Ultra HD for the first time, on April 30, too.

Like the new movie, the original film is available to stream on Paramount+. The film is also available to rent on Prime Video and Apple TV.
