Watch: McDavid and Crosby trade world-class assists

The two best hockey players on the planet refuse to be outdone by one another.

Connor McDavid seems to play some of his best games when facing off against incumbent best-player-in-the-world Sidney Crosby. That trend continued as the Penguins and Oilers squared off for the final time this season on Wednesday.

The Oilers captain lost a draw to the Penguins captain in the neutral zone during the second period, but that didn’t stop McDavid from creating yet another highlight reel assist to add to his portfolio. After Olli Maatta wasted Crosby’s effort on the draw with a brutal giveaway, McDavid retrieved the puck in the corner after forcing another turnover and threaded a gorgeous backhand pass to Leon Draisaitl for an easy tap-in.

Not to be outdone, Crosby had an answer before the end of the frame. After the Oilers missed on the rush, Crosby corralled a chip off the boards and barrelled full speed towards the Oilers goal before feathering a nifty backhand pass of his own to Conor Sheary, who promptly buried to knot the game at two.
