Watch: Martin Short sworn in as newest Mayor of Funner

SAN DIEGO (FOX 5/KUSI) — Succeeding the likes of Jane Lynch, Rob Riggle and David Hasselhoff, the new mayor of Funner, California is Martin Short, also known as Mayor Marty or “Your Worship.”

Harrah’s Resort Southern California officially welcomed comedian and actor Martin Short as Funner, California’s newest mayor on Monday.

FOX 5/KUSI’s Heather Lake was at Southern California’s Harrah’s Resort with the “Only Murders in the Building” star ahead of his induction ceremony to ask him what his favorite current projects are right now, how often he’ll visit Funner, what some of his mayoral duties will be and more on the ceremonial cannonball into resort’s pool.

Decked out in his signature purple suit and bow tie, Short took the oath of office Monday in front of the residents of Funner, California. But before you question the position, it is only promotional for Harrah’s Resort.

“I am proud to be mayor, and I will do everything I can to make Funner even more fun,” Short told Lake Monday.

During his induction ceremony, Mayor Marty emphasized his enthusiasm for the opportunity to lead Funner and outlined his vision for the city’s future, alongside emcee, Short’s friend, co-star, and former mayor of Funner, Jane Lynch.

Mayor Marty declared his promise to continue making Funner a destination “known for its fun-filled experiences, bringing laughter and joy to all who visit.”

Mayor Marty’s reign as self-proclaimed “Your Worship” — he joked as you can see in the above video — begins with several changes to Funner, like food, cocktails, and hotel and spa packages.

Mayor Marty’s plans for a new era of fun in Funner include:

• Culinary delights: Short Stack Pancakes, Pancake Short Tacos, Short & Sweet Churros, The Mega Marty (Tavern Ham, Gouda & Pretzel Sandwich)

• Bar favorites: Mayor’s Refresher (Ginger Shandy), Marty’s Motherland (Classic Ginger Whiskey), Mayor’s Choice Cosmo (complete with image of Mayor Marty)

• Hotel packages: Short & Suite (30% off Sweet Suites), Buckets of Fun (room of choice and bucket of Corona poolside at Dive)

• Express 20-min ‘Short On Time’ spa specials: Fun Made Funner Massage, Stunner Facial, Marty’s Mani

“Martin Short represents the essence of Funner,” said Jill Barrett, senior vice president and general manager of Harrah’s Resort SoCal. “His renowned humor and dedication to entertainment make him an ideal leader for guiding Funner into a new era. Mayor Marty is already actively planning innovative projects that will enhance the fun in Funner like his ‘Short On Time’ spa offerings and ‘Buckets of Fun’ hotel package; we eagerly anticipate seeing his vision unfold and fun made funner.”

While talking with Lake Monday, Short talked about his current favorite projects — shooting season 4 of “Only Murders in the Building” with Selena Gomez, Steve Martin and previously mentioned Jane Lynch, and his current live North American tour with Steve Martin, “Dukes Of Funnytown!”

He also joked he wants to bring in paint swatches to change the color of the exterior of Harrah’s Resort, if they let him of course.

The ceremony ended with Mayor Marty receiving the key to the city, marking the official start of his tenure as Funner’s newest mayor.

Located between San Diego and Los Angeles, Funner is home to Harrah’s Resort SoCal, the Rincon Reservation Road Brewery, a mini waterpark with a swim-up bar, and restaurants of all kinds, including California’s first and only Hell’s Kitchen by Gordon Ramsay.
