In a busy weekend at the box office, “Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire,” the Sydney Sweeney horror vehicle “Immaculate,” IFC’s “Late Night with the Devil,” and two animated rereleases (“Luca” and recent Oscar winner “The Boy and the Heron“) will compete for the top spots. Meanwhile, a recent box-office smash is hitting digital platforms.

The contender to watch this week: “Bob Marley: One Love

Reinaldo Marcus Green‘s biopic about the pioneering reggae singer is still riding its theatrical wave ($170 million worldwide and counting), but “Bob Marley: One Love” is also available to purchase or rent on VOD. Kingsley Ben-Adir shed his Kenergy to play Marley, icon of dorm-room posters and pacifistic chill-out vibes, opposite a supporting cast that includes Lashana Lynch, Tosin Cole, “Happy Valley” breakout James Norton, and Michael Gandolfini. “One Love” is a fairly rote retelling enhanced by its subject’s music, but even the weakest biopic tendencies have a groovy appeal.

Other contenders:

  • Shirley“: Following a weeklong theatrical bow, this Shirley Chisholm biopic written and directed by Oscar winner John Ridley — not to be confused with the Shirley Jackson biopic of the same name — is now on Netflix. Regina King portrays Chisholm, the first Black woman elected to Congress, as she mounts a long-shot presidential campaign in 1972. King’s co-stars include Lance Riddick, Lucas Hedges, Terrence Howard, André Holland, and Brian Stokes Mitchell

  • “Anselm”: Wem Wenders is fresh off an Oscar nomination for “Perfect Days,” and now his other Cannes title from 2023 has debuted on The Criterion Channel. The impressionistic documentary explores the life and art of German multidisciplinarian Anselm Kiefer, whose often confrontational work addresses the Holocaust, mysticism, and repression. Like Wenders’ 2011 film about choreographer Pina Bausch, “Anselm” was released theatrically in 3-D.

  • Road House“: Somewhat controversially, Amazon MGM Studios is sending Doug Liman‘s fresh take on the 1989 Patrick Swayze action hit straight to Prime Video. It was never going to be an awards candidate, but this thing could have done box-office numbers. It has a starry cast (Jake Gyllenhaal, Conor McGregor, Post Malone, Jessica Williams, Lukas Gage) and thrilling set pieces. The audience at this month’s SXSW premiere, which Liman initially considered boycotting, went gaga, sort of proving the director’s point.

  • “Inside the Yellow Cocoon Shell”: Director Phạm Thiên Ân won Cannes’ Camera d’Or prize last year for his moving drama about a Saigon man (Lê Phong Vũ) returning home after his sister-in-law dies. You can find it on VOD.
